ReThink HK 2024 Post Event Report

BritCham is proud to be Content Partner of the ReThink HK 2024 Sustainable Business Forum & Solutions Expo and hosted the “Rethinking Workforce Transformation” session consisting of three panels at the People & Purpose Theatre held on 12 September 2024. Our session was full-house with 200 delegates in attendance.

Our Chair Jeremy Sheldon gave the opening welcome that led to key discussions addressing DEI as a business and communication strategy, and why creating a culture of respect and belonging in which all employees feel empowered to contribute their best will only serve to benefit our organisations in the long term, as well as sustainability skills gap as it relates to competence greenwashing.

This was followed by the first panel on “Creating a Safer and More Inclusive Working Environment” which included moderator Kirti Lad of Meraki Executive Serach & Consulting; panelists Donna Buckland of Prudential plc; Sonal Chugani (She / Her) of Cathay Pacific; Ulrike Klemm of JLL; David Lee of University of Hong Kong Business School.

The second panel was on “Competence Greenwashing: Contributing to Today’s Workforce Skills Gap” and was moderated by Vice Chair of BritCham’s ESG Committee Ivo Spreeuwenberg, and included panelists Paddy Balfour of Acre; Haily Chan of Swire Pacific; Mark Cheung of Network of Environmental Student Societies; Celina Kwong of LinkedIn.

The third panel on “Managing a Multi-Generational Workforce: Exploring the Challenges and Opportunities” was moderated by Michael Cheuk-Hon Chan, MPH of Mayer Brown; with panelists Grace Cheng of Agewhale Limited; Jennifer Choot of Hongkong Land; Prof. YEUNG Dannii of City University of Hong Kong; Brett Verschoor (He/Him) of EY.

A big thank you to Chris Brown and his ReThink team for their invaluable support and collaboration. We are very strong supporters of ReThink and the important work they do. Thank you to our Chair Jeremy Sheldon for his opening speech, Mark Harper, Chair of our BritCham ESG Committee, for his contributions in advancing our sustainability efforts, and putting the programme together with members of our ESG Committee alongside the ReThink team. Thank you to Stuart Mackenzie, our programme MC, for guiding us through today’s discussions. Thank you to our 5 panel sponsors, Acre, JLL, Swire Pacific, EY and Hong Kong Land without them this would not be able to happen.

Our Chamber also powered the “Transportation Tech Talk” at the European Pavilion as part of the European Stage Programme held on 13 September 2024. Speakers including Dr Vincent Cheng of Arup; Nic Fong of Cathay Pacific; and Tracey Liao of PwC; presented their tech talk on the topic of Transportation curated to match the EU Greenway 2024 Recommendations. Together they covered CO2 emissions, how to improve energy efficiency of transport modes, new regulations on decarbonisation, emission trading system and sustainable fuels across land transport, aviation and shipping respectively.

Thank you to the speakers and delegates and thank you to Mark Harper, Chair of our BritCham ESG Committee and Billy Wong, Chair of our BritCham Trade & Logistics Committee for lining this up alongside the ReThink team.

This year's ReThink HK 2024 surpassed our expectations with over 8,500 attendees across the two days - a huge thank you to those who attended, exhibited, spoke and sponsored.
