Join us for the next Inspirational Women Series with Karon Monaghan QC. Karon will be joining us the day after she represents Leung, the gay civil servant fighting for equal rights for his husband, at the Leung v Secretary for Civil Service Court of Final Appeal hearing.
Karon Monaghan QC practices principally in the fields of equality and discrimination law, human rights and EU law. Her work spans the fields of employment law, civil actions and judicial review. She has appeared in numerous cases at appellate level, including in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and (on references under Art 267, TFEU) in the CJEU. Karon also undertakes advisory work for public bodies and NGOs and is an A Panel member of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s Panel of Preferred Counsel. She is also the author of ‘Equality Law’ (2013, OUP). Karon was named Employment Silk of the Year at both the 2017 Chambers & Partners Bar Awards and the 2017 Legal 500 Awards and was featured in The Lawyer’s ‘Hot 100’ list for 2018.
About the moderator
Kathryn Weaver is an Employment Partner and Head of Lewis Silkin’s Hong Kong office. She has extensive experience of advising multi-national employers in the Asia Pacific region on international employment law matters, including acting as in-house employment counsel to several global companies whilst on secondment. Her work spans both contentious and non-contentious matters, such as implementing partnership programmes and equity schemes, coordinating litigation, carrying out contract, policy and compliance reviews, advising on restructuring and terminations, and negotiating settlements. Kathryn also provides UK employment law advice, including on gender pay gap reporting obligations in the UK and on the GDPR. She sits on the Women in Business Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and contributes to www.futureofworkhub.info on legal tech stories.
