Distinguished Speaker with Jan du Plessis, Chairman of BT
The British Chamber is honoured to host Jan du Plessis, Chairman of BT Group on his visit to Hong Kong.
Jan has been Chairman of BT Group plc since 1 November 2017, having joined the board as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman-elect in June 2017. Jan was Chairman of Rio Tinto from April 2009 to March 2018.
He also served as Chairman of SABMiller plc from July 2015 until its takeover in October 2016 by AB Inbev. Prior to this he was Chairman of British American Tobacco, from July 2004 to October 2009.
He has held non-executive directorships at Marks & Spencer Group and Lloyds Banking Group, and served as Chairman of RHM plc until its takeover by Premier Foods.
In his earlier career from 1988 to 2004, Jan was Group Finance Director of Richemont, the Swiss luxury goods public group. Raised near Cape Town, South Africa, Jan obtained degrees in Commerce and Law from the University of Stellenbosch before going on to qualify as a South African Chartered Accountant.
