Marketing & Communications Committee

The objective of the Marketing Committee is to provide leadership on issues and opportunities that affect marketing and communications professionals as well as their implications on the Chamber membership as a whole. The role of the committee focuses on providing information through briefings, events, articles and thought pieces to Chamber members updating them on the latest marketing issues and developments in Hong Kong. The committee also hosts structured discussions and identifies solutions for key issues faced by those in the industry as well as sharing relevant best practice and provide support and advice within the committee and to Chamber membership as a whole. 

The Marketing Committee aims to be at the forefront of change, addressing topics that concern marketing professionals including inviting influential speakers and preparing policy papers.

He moved to Hong Kong from London as a partner in independent experience design consultancy StartJG to develop the business in Asia having previously set up operations in Dubai and Moscow. StartJG HK quickly grew to become one of the most respected consultancies in Asia, winning Agency of the Year awards in HK in 2014, 15 and 16. In October 2016, WPP acquired a majority stake and StartJG HK became part of FITCH, the world’s leading brand and retail consultancy, with Jonathan remaining a significant shareholder. An expert in brand strategy, Jonathan has influenced many of the world’s leading brands including the Virgin Group, Chow Tai Fook, Bulgari, Dubai Airports, Genting and Swire. Amongst other voluntary roles Jonathan is a Director of CricketHK, board advisor to Ethiopian fashion brand ENZI, advisor to racing driver Dan Wells and founder of the Cambodian Children’s Fund Panda Paddlers, possibly the largest dragon boat team in the world. Jonathan is married with two children.

Earlier this year he founded Lines Consultancy Limited in Hong Kong, an integrated communications consultancy. Prior to this he was Chairman Asia Pacific at Hill+Knowlton Strategies and worked with Hill+Knowlton for 35 years in multiple roles across APAC, the Middle East and the UK. He is currently based in Hong Kong. At the C-suite level Mr Lines has counseled major corporate clients in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia. He has managed IPO communications for companies listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and has worked with clients in multiple sectors, including: eCommerce, genomics, energy, electronics, banking/finance/insurance, and aviation. His public affairs experience includes communications advisory to various government and government-linked entities in different capacities. He has also provided communications training for senior officials at the ASEAN Secretariat, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management, and for government representatives from each of the ASEAN Member States. He holds an MBA from Duke University, an MA in Political Science from Georgetown University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Kent. He also holds a Financial Times Non-Executive Director Diploma and sits as a Director on the Board of a family-owned Indonesian energy business.

William approached the Jamie Oliver UK restaurant group with a proposal to open Jamie’s Italian restaurants across Hong Kong and China – after successfully negotiating the franchise rights William then secured investment and assembled a management team, including Non-Executive Chairman Lord Evan Mervyn Davies (former CEO and Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank). The first Jamie’s Italian restaurant opened in July this year in Causeway Bay and the group has plans for further expansion. Before the incorporation of the Big Cat Group Limited in April 2013, William worked for Jardine Matheson & Co. Limited for more than 11 years. He held a number of operational and business development roles across their Dairy Farm, Jardine Restaurant and Aviation groups. William has lived in Asia for 15 years.
